About Yamato Judo Academy

Yamato Judo Academy is a community judo club built around clear teaching, mutual respect, and steady progress. We welcome newcomers and experienced judoka who want to train with purpose and care.

Our story

The club was founded to make judo accessible without compromising standards. We invest in coaching development, safe practice, and a training culture where everyone can improve.

From first lessons in breakfalls to competitive pathways, our aim is the same: help every member grow with confidence.

What is judo?

Judo is a modern Japanese martial art and Olympic sport. It emphasises throwing, balance, and groundwork, using an opponent’s movement rather than brute force.

Training develops fitness, coordination, and resilience—alongside respect for partners and the rules of the dojo.

Who we cater for

  • Children and teenagers building coordination and confidence
  • Adults learning judo for the first time or returning after a break
  • Members interested in grading progression and optional competition pathways

Our values

  • Respect

For coaches, partners, and the traditions of the sport.

  • Safety

Controlled practice and appropriate challenge at every level.

  • Integrity

Honest effort, fair play, and a supportive club culture.

Safety and standards

We follow safe coaching practices, maintain appropriate supervision for junior sessions, and encourage members to communicate injuries or concerns early.

Equipment and etiquette matter: clean judogi where appropriate, trimmed nails, and jewellery removed for training.
